Are you nervous about visiting the dentist? Does an upcoming appointment make you mildly or moderately anxious? Dental anxiety is a common problem and you are not alone. You might want to contemplate using nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, to help make your visits easier.
Nitrous oxide is an odorless, colorless and fast acting gas. It has been widely accepted as being safe and may be commonly used. Mixed with oxygen, it is given to you through a mask. When the gas is inhaled, you may begin to relax while staying alert and aware. After the treatment is over, our dentist will administer oxygen through the mask and the effects should wear off a few minutes.
If you would prefer not to be sedated, you can try other methods to calm your mind. Meditation or visualizing yourself in another location may prove useful. You could also try to keep your mind busy by bringing a fidget spinner or a device that can play soothing music. If you’re nervous, you can always talk to Dr. Kenneth Hancock about what you’re having done as often it is the unknown that causes anxiety.
If you would like to get more information about nitrous oxide, or to schedule an appointment, please call Kenneth Hancock DDS at 360-464-2099 today. We are conveniently located in Olympia, Washington, and look forward to helping you.
