Although dental floss may seem like a very basic oral health care treatment, it is also one of the most important. Dental floss is highly effective at cleaning between teeth and reaching areas that brushing alone cannot reach. This will help keep your mouth clean and free of bacteria and food residue that can give rise to enamel erosion and other oral ailments.

Not all dental floss products are created the same. Remember to exercise caution when deciding which product is best for you. For suggestions and recommendations, speak with your dentist. In addition, always look for floss that is shred-resistant and will not tear up on use. As an alternative to threaded floss, water flossers can be effectively used as well.

If you decide on using a threaded floss, make sure each strand is long enough during use to wrap around a finger on each hand and move up and down the strand as needed during the treatment. Typical flossing sessions should last between 2 to 3 minutes and clean between every one of your teeth and the teeth in the back. Once your session is finished, throw away the strand and use a new one for each subsequent treatment.
